Introduction to Strata Management

If you’re considering a career as a strata property manager in British Columbia, enrolling in a strata management licensing course is your essential first step. The strata management licensing process, overseen by the BC Financial Services Authority (BCFSA), ensures that aspiring strata managers are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in the real estate industry. The official course is offered by the UBC Sauder School of Business, the exclusive provider of the strata management course in BC.

This strata management course provides a deeper understanding of the Strata Property Act, Real Estate Services Act, the unique responsibilities involved in managing a strata corporation. The real estate division plays an important role in enforcing rules and maintaining industry standards across British Columbia. Students gain detailed information on managing a strata corporation, including governance, financial planning, and property management responsibilities. Strata management training also develops essential skills such as running AGMs, enforcing bylaws, and understanding industry rules and compliance requirements.

To become a licensed strata manager, you must complete the strata management licensing course through the Sauder School of Business and meet all eligibility requirements set by the BC Financial Services Authority. Applicants must be at least 19 years old, of good reputation, and meet the standards outlined in the Real Estate Services Act. Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements before they are eligible to register for the exam.

As part of the licensing process, candidates must complete a criminal record check and satisfy the English Language Proficiency Requirement, which includes achieving the required scores across all four components. While students can begin the course and submit course assignments before meeting this requirement, it is recommended to start early to avoid delays in the licensing process.

The real estate industry in British Columbia is highly regulated and competitive, making it crucial for new licensees to be well-prepared. Completing the strata management licensing course not only satisfies regulatory requirements but also gives you a competitive edge when applying to real estate brokerages or seeking advancement within the industry. Many managing brokers highly recommend the strata management supplemental course for those who want to become strata managers and stand out in the field.

By registering with the mandatory education provider UBC Sauder School of Business and supplementing your studies with GOBC’s exam prep resources, you’ll have access to expertly crafted course materials, practical support, and proven strategies to help you pass the UBC exam on your first attempt. With the right preparation, you can confidently register for the licensing exam, complete the process, and launch a rewarding career as a licensed strata manager in British Columbia’s thriving real estate services sector.

UBC Exam Strategies

The UBC licensing exam is a critical step in the strata management licensing process, and understanding what to expect can significantly improve your chances of success. The exam is a final exam consisting of 100 multiple-choice questions, and students must achieve a minimum passing grade of 70%. The questions are designed to test your understanding of key concepts, not just memorization, which is why many students find the exam more challenging than expected.

The exam covers a wide range of topics from the strata management course, including legislation, governance, and real-world scenarios related to managing a strata corporation. Many students struggle because the content is broad and requires you to connect concepts across different subject areas. Without a clear study strategy, it’s easy to focus on the wrong material or feel overwhelmed by the volume of information.

One of the most important things to understand is that the UBC exam is not about memorizing facts—it’s about developing a strong understanding of how concepts apply in practical situations. Practice questions and mock exams are helpful, but they must be used correctly. They should reinforce learning, not replace it. Students who rely only on practice questions often feel surprised during the actual exam because the structure and wording can be very different.

Historically, the exam has had a moderate pass rate, underscoring the importance of proper preparation. Students who follow a structured system and consistently review course materials are far more likely to pass on their first attempt. Those who study randomly or without guidance often need multiple attempts, delaying the licensing process and adding unnecessary stress.

When it comes to format, students can choose between a computer-based exam or a written exam. Both formats are identical in difficulty, use the same question bank, and are administered under the same standards by the Real Estate Division. The choice depends on your personal preference, comfort level, and scheduling availability—not on which option is easier.

The key to passing the final exam is preparation and strategy. GOBC helps students prepare by providing a clear step-by-step system, focusing on what actually matters for the exam, and teaching students how to approach different types of questions. By staying consistent, using structured support, and focusing on understanding rather than memorization, you can confidently prepare for the UBC exam and move forward in your licensing process.

Career Opportunities

Strata management is a stable and growing career within the real estate industry in British Columbia. Licensed strata managers are responsible for overseeing strata corporations, ensuring compliance with legislation, and managing day-to-day property operations. This career offers long-term stability and competitive earning potential, especially as experience grows.

After completing the licensing process and passing the exam, candidates must join a licensed real estate brokerage to begin working as a strata manager. Many brokerages look for candidates who are well-prepared, confident, and have a strong understanding of the material.

The strata management course is designed to be flexible, allowing students to study at their own pace while managing work and personal commitments. GOBC offers a structured 10-week course that provides clear direction, accountability, and ongoing support throughout the learning process.

This excellent course is highly recommended by students and industry professionals because it combines expert instruction, practical training, and proven exam preparation strategies. Students have access to experienced instructors, structured course materials, and support systems that help them stay focused and motivated.

GOBC supports students from start to finish—helping them prepare, stay consistent, and pass on their first attempt. By following a structured system and using the support provided, students can avoid wasting time and money on external resources and instead focus on building a successful long-term career.

UBC Course & Licensing Process

To become a licensed strata manager, you must complete the strata management licensing course through the UBC Sauder School of Business and successfully pass the UBC licensing exam. This course is the mandatory education requirement in British Columbia and is designed to prepare students for real-world responsibilities in the real estate industry.

The course covers key areas such as the Strata Property Act, Real Estate Services Act, governance of a strata corporation, financial management, and compliance with industry rules. Students are required to complete all course assignments before becoming eligible to register for the final exam.

The licensing process, regulated by the BC Financial Services Authority, ensures that all candidates meet strict professional and ethical standards. In addition to completing the course, applicants must meet all eligibility requirements, including submitting a criminal record check and satisfying the English Language Proficiency Requirement.

Many students underestimate how important it is to properly prepare for both the course and the exam. Simply reading the material is not enough—you must develop a strong understanding of how concepts apply in real situations. GOBC helps bridge this gap by providing structured course materials, expert instructors, and a step-by-step system that helps students stay on track and avoid common mistakes.

By following a proven study system and staying consistent, students can complete the course efficiently, prepare effectively, and move confidently through the licensing process without unnecessary delays
